English and French are officially recognized languages of Canada and Chinese, Spanish, Italian and Arabic are non-official languages. Canada has no official religion. The Canadian charter of Rights and Freedom does mention “God” but no specific beliefs. One of the Canadians surveyed reveals that most of the population is Christian. The official currency of Canada is Canadian dollar denoted by CAD.

In most parts of Canada temperature falls below freezing point in winter. During summer the temperature rises to a reasonable extent.


Under the Canadian constitution imparting and managing education is a provincial responsibility. The Education system among the provinces may differ, but the standard of education is uniformly high. Throughout Canada, the universities, community colleges, Technical institutes, Career Colleges and language schools are either publicly-funded or private ones.


In Canada there are three degree awarding levels – Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral. A degree from the lower level makes way for admission to the next level. Students at bachelor level are called Undergraduates. Secondary school program is the normal prerequisite for admission to undergraduate study. Normally it requires three to four years full-time study depending on the province or specialized program. An honour Bachelor degree shows a higher concentration in the honours subject and many require an additional one year study.

A master’s degree requires two years of study after completion of an honour bachelor level.

For doctoral programs, a master’s degree is a normal pre-requisite; students may be allowed in special conditions to go directly to Doctoral program from honours bachelor program.

An internship is compulsory for a professional practicing in the field of Medicine, Law, Social Work and Education.

The Primary activity of the universities is to undertake degree programs and award three years or four years bachelor’s degrees. The transfer from one university to another is generally smooth.

Colleges and Institutes primarily provide diploma and certificate programs and some offer two years associate degrees or four years applied degrees.
